Lia and Danika set together on a park bench.

“So what is it you wanted to talk about?”

Lia took in a deep breath, she finally decided to tell everything, “Danika, for awhile now I’ve been feeling closer and closer to you. You’ve risked your safety standing up for me. I’ve never know someone like you, you’re special to me”

Danika smiled, “Lia I-”

“Wait, there’s more”, she interrupted, “I love you, I don’t care if you don’t love me the same way but fell you should know how I fe-”, she was cut off Danika kissing her.

Danika broke the kiss and hugged her, “Silly, of course I love you, I realized that the moment I saw you come in after you were abused by Taylor”, she put her hand to Lia’s face, “I love you and I want to spend as much time with you as I can”

“What about college?

She smiled, “Well I’ve already got excepted so I guess we just need to see if you do too. Even you don’t I’m sure it’ll work out”




The weekend was over and the word had quickly spread about Lia and Danika. The first people to talk to them about it were, of course, Mia and Robert.

“So, Danika, what happed to you not liking girls?”, *splat* once again a flying milk carton hit him in the face. Milk splattered all over him and along the wall behind him.

“You think you would have learned by now”, Mia said teasing him.

“I don’t like girls”, Danika said in a matter of fact way, “I love one girl”, Lia blushed.

Mia had a somewhat puzzled look on her face, “ What about that new guy you were going out with?”

Danika picked up Lia’s milk and took a swig of it, “Oh him, we broke up the day after we started going out”

Mia smacked her forehead with her palm, “I should have guessed it”

Robert grabbed a handful of napkins and started to clean off the milk, “You know the janitors are probably tried of having to rinse the milk off the wall after it splatters everywhere”, suddenly a handful of fries pelted him in the head, “Well at least it’s a change”

“So are you going to college together?”, Mia asked as the group ignored Robert.

“Well I got into a college and Lia is still waiting to hear from the same place, if she does then we will. How about you guys?”

“I’m going to be going to law school upstate”

“Community college for me”

“I told you to apply early, but you’d rather spend your time playing video games. You know if you weren’t so cute I’d have given up on you long ago”

He set down on a rail next to her, “Cute enough to date?”

Mia sighed and pushed him off, “Not quite”

Danika couldn’t help but laugh.




After school Lia and Danika set up in Danika’s room. Danika laid with her arms wrapped tightly around Lia and one of her legs over Lia’s. Lia had her arm wrapped around Danika’s shoulder. The two of them just sitting and waiting for the mail, today hopefully would be the day that they would find out if they would be able to go to college together or if they would be separated.

Danika glanced at the clock by the bed, “He should be here any minute”

Lia just gave her a simple nod.

Danika nuzzled her face up to Lia’s, “Try not to think to hard about it, I’m sure things will work out”

From outside the heard a high-pitched squeak that they recognized it as the brakes on the mail truck.

Lia looked at and swallowed hard, “Well looks like it’s finally time”, they got up to head downstairs, “Wish me luck”, Lia said as she headed down the stairs.
